One of our core research strengths is the study of gun, gang & drug-Professor Christopher Melde
related violence. Assistant Professor Chris Melde’s article in a recent edition of Criminology (May 2009) presents the counter-intuitive finding

Deidrich Towne (right), Chairman of Private-Public Business Inc congratulates Brit Weber (left), School of Criminal Justice, Michigan State University on the award presented during the national DRJ Conference, Orlando, Florida on March 15, 2009. The award recognizes MSU’s leadership in helping government, businesses, and non-profit organizations across the nation to work together through the building of public/private partnerships for joint crisis management.

The School of Criminal Justice creates public/private collaborations through their Critical Incident Protocol (CIP) – Community Facilitation program, which has been implemented in 46 communities (cities, counties and regions) in 24 states and with 4,200 public and private sector executives participating in the CIP Program workshops. Communities that capitalize on bringing together government and the business community for joint collaboration are better able to prepare for, respond to, and recover quicker from the impact of manmade and natural critical incidents, disasters, and acts of terrorism. For more information on the CIP Program, please go to www.cip.msu.edu.
